Day 40 - Ceci n'est pas une pipe.
Okay, fine. it is a pipe, I just didn't know what else to title it today's photo. I'm an avid collector of tobacco pipes, I guess it started back when I first read The Chronicles of Narnia and the Lord of the Rings and hearing about both Lewis's and Tolkien's love for pipe tobacco. I always associated pipes with scholars and tweed jackets. Often times when people find out about my pipes they regale me with stories of close loved ones who loved the pipe and how the scent brings back numerous fond memories of their uncle, or sitting on the grandfather's lap. The one thing the pipe typically does not invoke, is indifference.
Each of my pipes has a story from the corncob I picked up at CVS for $6 to the one given to me by a lawyer in New York valued at over $400, to the one that I made myself, each one it's strengths, none with any weaknesses. This particular pipe was made for me.
Last year my pipe collection was stolen from my car, I assume because they were in a bag that looked remarkably like a laptop bag (though, in fact, it did not contain a laptop). When the pipe community found out my pipes were stolen they banded together and gifted me a new collection. Some I have kept and others I have given away to allow the kindness to continue on. When one of the members of /r/pipetobacco found out about my situation, he decided to gift me the pipe he was currently making. It's one of my favorites.
